Painting skin with oil

By Dorian
The beginner may simply add black or brown to skin colours, resulting in an unconvincing colour of dark fle. Painted in open studio, this life study of Faith was a pleasure to do. A fairly limited palette with a couple of warm and cool reds and yellows, a green and perhaps ultramarine.

The studio was indirectly lit by a window on our left, and a full-length mirror on the wall opposite the window provided fill light.

Use a washcloth or your hands to rub the skin with oil. Using your fingertips, rub the baby oil into the painted part of your skin, and gently scratch off as much of the paint as you can. I'm sure the same principles work in acrylics although I don't have the same control as oils I use a very similar sort of limited palette but maybe not the exactly same colours. Mix equal parts salt and oil, then scrub the mixture onto the paint to remove it.

Rub the skin with oil and water until the primer comes off.
